The marina
The marina

We arrived on the 30/4. It was a motoring exercise again and on the east side of the Cherbourg peninsula it was very lumpy with 1 1/2 metre waves. The marina Chantereyne is ok but as usual the wifi is hopeless. If coming in try to moor your boat close to the wifi antennas on the pontoon….you maybe lucky! Cherbourg itself is pleasant with lots of shops and places to visit but for some reason the museum of liberation which is on top of a cliff has no transport link. It is an uphill walk. The weather has been changeable. Trying to work out when to leave for Alderney is difficult with each pilot book giving different guidance however I have settled on HW Dover -4.5 hours.

Still we will have that well known navigator Dr Peter (early to bed) Graham on board with his able assistance Margs ( of many names)Rousseau. We shall survive…!

We also visited a lovely park called Parc Emmanuel Liais. It is worth going there.

We are also awaiting a gelcoat repair to the bow! Slight prang…..not me!!

The repair has been done well. 222 euros! We met Marietta ( not real name, by request) and Josh ( also secret ! ). They are going to the Carribean in  Westerly Conway which  previously belonged to our friends Reinus and his wife (fast) Annie. The boat is called Fast Ann and I have a cuddly Stuffed  monkey on board called…….fast Annie.

M and J (?) don’t eat real food…..they eat Bio stuff? J is called schatje  , should you meet him….it means darling! But who is he…..? Pete and Margs arrived and the weather is no good for sailing so we wait….the winds are gale force.

We went to the Cite de la mar. You must visit here if you visit as it is fantastic. There is a nuclear sub to go on and a reality type attraction to the depths.

We left at 0400 for Jersey on the 12/6 and arrived about 14.00.

Cherbourg is a nice place to visit and a car will do the beaches of WW2!

I only followed the captains instructions! I was going to the far pontoon but he ordered me to go where wind pushed us! Not my fault!

A good skipper always blames his crew.
